Today is Ethan's birthday, however we celebrated it on Sunday. We had a fabulous meal that included homemade potato soup, I understand why Ethan hunt down all those potatos in the garden now, it was GREAT! Angie makes the best homemade dinner rolls I have ever tasted, surpassing both of my favorite cooks, my Great-Aunt Julia and my Mother. She has become the third great cook in my family. She has come a very long way from the girl who couldn't even boil water without burning it and who absolutly refused to peel an onion no matter what punishment she was threatened with! She even concocted a very good spicy veggie dip, which she refused to write down for me. Aden picked flowers and made the table setting.
After dinner we went outside. After a moments rest
poor Ethan was put to work. Herding turkeys,
instructing the truculent chickens on proper behavior,
and then he was forced to eradicate garden pests and feed them to the fowl.
Finally the poor boy had to resort to hiding behind the yard swing cusion.
He was finally coerced out by Aunt Sarah for a photo op.
And Aden too!
Then Dad brought out his old jalopy and gave rides around the farm.
Then it was back to work again. Putting the flock away for the night. There's my Chicken Chasers!!!
And helping dad with a few strays.
Finally it was time to go in and the party to start.
But first some semi-nude balloon volleyball.
Finally Presents!!!
Then Cake and Ice Cream!!! Did I say Cake? OH NO, it's a tomato worm!!!
And he had to exterminate this one too!
And since no one offered her any cake and ice cream, while everone else was busy, Ginger decided to clean up the table!

Great post dad!! You got a lot of great pics! I should've just sent everyone over here for Ethan's b'day post!
Then do so.
And just for the record, I still hate chopping onions!
Making that poor boy work on his birthday. What a shame! ;)
Heyyy now, that little boy was sposed to get outta his chores on his birthday! He should certainly get an extra day now.
Wonderful post! I cracked up at the photo of the tomato worm cake--I'll never read The Very Hungry Caterpillar in the same way again.
Good post, coming from farm mom's blog!
I'd like to invite you to my son's birthday on Sunday. You clearly bring life to every party. Can you make it? Of course, he isn't as cute as Ethan, well, he's definitely cute, but he's going to be 20, so it's a different kind of cute, you know? No semi-nude balloon volleyball for us!
So, how come there aren't any pics of the birthday boy with his grandpa?
Maybe Grampa is camera-shy. Best place for the camera-shy is in possession of the camera. He tells a great story though and the illustration is fantastic. Happy birthday Ethan.
Don't be fooled by the lack of photographic evidence, my boys favoritest person in the world is his papa! :) And yes Danni, dad is definitely is the life of the party.....but I'm afraid he might be tempted to lobby FOR that semi-nude volleyball! LOL! :)
Farmgirl_dk: I would love to be there, 20yr olds are no problem and I would probably be able to arrange more in-opportuned photos to make a Fun story from. And the reason for no photos with Grampa is a practical one...we don't want any broken cameras..LOL
And whats this about no semi-nude ballon volleyball? It's a great game and lots of fun, just ask Ethan!!
Katkinkate: How right you are!!!
Meg: I don't know if it was supposed to be a tomato worm cake, but after getting the picture of the little guy and the worm it became one..LOL
Christy & Frugalmom: Your guys response on Farm Mom's site are what induced me to write this post. In reality, the "poor boy" was having a blast and I was just lucky enough to have the right photos to create this story from the 83 photos taken by my camera that day. No, I did't take them all I had lots of help. But strangely there was none of me and Ethan together nor any of Grandma either!
Glad you enjoyed this posting and check out my post on CHICKEN CHASERS for another tongue-in-cheek story.
Oh wow! You had me in stitches! You did an excellent account of Ethan's exciting and busy birthday.
Now go take a nap, Grey Wolf. You surely deserve it!
:)
