Oh now...that photo of the egg on the glowing blue dinosaur thingy is way cool. I can't believe your girls actually broke the 3 ounce ceiling!! Those two have GOT to be triple yolkers, wouldn't you think? Dorothy is waaaay impressed. :-) Agnes and Maude will be, too.
Dorothy: That is a lasered crystal on a lighted turntable. I know, that poor little hen, I can't wait to see how far she goes with these monster eggs, Agnes brought me over one of her scales so I can keep track of her accomplishments.
Don: those monsters all came from 1 seven month old Grey Leghorn. So far she has laid all double yolkers.
Agnes: Due to lack of batteries the picture will have to wait, but soon. I just wish I could figure out which one it is so I could give her special treatment or a medal or something.
For the first few months of laying, our girls gave us a double yolker every day or two. And one girl gave us triple yolkers three times! It was so eggciting collecting eggs every day. We were especially when cooking them. We'd all gather around the fry pan as we broke those monster-sized eggs, and ooh and ahhh, as those double and triple yolks slid out!
Alas, that only lasted about 3-4 months. Habn't had a double or triple yolks since then.
My chickens will be a year old next week!!!! Woot! Woot!
Lisa: Heck Ya, and ice cream too! OK maybe the ice cream is a bit much, but it's only fair to make them a cake. No candles or icing please! I have been making my chickens popcorn for the last few weeks. My step-mother gave me a bunch of old stuff that someone gave her and I have been popping it for the hens.(no butter or salt) They have been gobbling it up like they were at a double feature with free drinks. I'm almost afraid to think of whats going to happen when its gone!! We'll probably have a revolt on our hands ;)
Hokey Pete! And that is just too cool....and way to go mystery chicken! She for sure deserves, I dunno, some fresh berries placed every so gently in a champagne flute....
Beware the Irishman. For he will fill your belly with strong drink, and your ears full of Blarney, he will tell you all of the woes of his life, and keep you out 'til late in the morning.
I have been happily married for 39 years, to the love of my life. We live quietly on a five acre family plot. We have 3 wonderful children who are now out of the house. Our oldest daughter has provided us with 2 beautiful grandchildren and our son with 1. We also have 2 LARGE dogs and 3 cats to keep us busy. Sometimes it's a zoo around here.
We are suppose to be in our "Golden Years" but they have turned to RUST!
I have Post Polio Syndrome. It has left me with a leg that just quits on me whenever it feels like it, muscles that tire easily, arthritis and degenerative disc disease in my spine, which causes me daily aches and pains that I have come to learn to live with, and a brain that gets confused very easily, forgets things quickly and doesn't allow me to do some of my old hobbies or read well. My wife has Fibro-Myalgia and suffers through it's daily pains and has Cronic Fatigue Syndrome too. She too is unable to work.
I dedicate this blog to my children and grandchildren, so that they may read some of my childhood memories, before I forget them all.

Wow! That is a monster. What kind of chicken is laying your big eggs and how old is she?
I had rotator cuff surgery last year. It worked, I'm pretty much back to normal, but 6 weeks of little movement after the surgery was almost too much!
Good luck!
You really need to take a picture of the girls who lay these eggs. No one will believe it!!! :)

Where did the last year go?
Should I make my girls a birthday cake, or what?
