Not Ready Yet :{

Well my Dad is still in the hospital. Complications due to age, congestive heart failure, emphazima, Parkinson's Disease, and a urinary tract infection are keeping him from being moved to a medical care facility for physical therapy. And tonight he was moved to the Intensive Care Unit. He will get better treatment there and constant monitoring.

Then there is my DAUGHTER who is keeping me on my toes.

And finally a frozen septic system. Are all occupying my time and mind. Staying worn out mentally and physically seems to be my fate for now. BLACK IRISH LUCK don't ya know!!!

I have had time to butcher a couple of rabbits (1 for me to prepare at a future time when I can PLAN a meal. And 1 for Ang to try.) I had planned on doing this at an earlier date, but somehow never got around to it. The other day there was some fighting between 2 of my bucks so I eliminated both of them, leaving me with 1 male and 3 females. I hope I only need the 1 buck.
We lost one hen earlier in the winter but so far the rest seem to be doing ok, other than a few barebacked hens. The very cold weather has slowed down egg production some but not too bad. Out of 20 hens we get on average a dozen one day and a dozen and a half the next. The warm spell we have had the last couple of days has created another problem....WATER.
It is running into the chicken coop which sits in a low spot, so this summer I will have to do some landscaping to prevent this problem next year. So far the water hasn't reached the chicken's pen yet. But it is supposed to be close to 60 degrees tomorrow and rain.

So wish me luck, and I will try to catch up soon.
Thank you for all of the prayers and well wishes for my Dad and Daughter;
Gary

Sheesh, I come to the comments all somber and serious, and then Warren's got me chuckling uncontrollably!! :P

I'm okay dad. I'm okay, I'm okay, I'm okay. Don't worry about me, you've got enough on your plate...next to the taco bell and the rabbit. ;)

I hope you guys get help with the septic soon, that really does not sound fun.

Take Care of YOU!! xoxo

Hey GW! Great to hear from you.
I'm so sorry about your Dad. I hope the ICU can get all his complications under control soon. I'll keep him in my prayers still.

So what's the best way to cook rabbit? And what is better: wild rabbit or tame rabbit? Does the tame taste less gamier...or is there a difference?

I'm surprised your septic system is frozen. How does THAT happen?
You must have been dealing with some realy cold temps, or maybe your tank isn't deep enough?
I hope that never happens here. gah!
Last winter we even had temps 10 degrees below zero for a week and our septic was fine, although the water pipe going up to the barn froze and then burst.
Not fun having to haul water up that hill twice a day....

Hang in there and make yourself some rabbit burritos with extra chilies. That should unthaw your septic. :D

Warren: I believe you are right!!!
More TB and less McD's!!!

Marcee: Thanks

Ang: Yeah, RIGHT, Sure!!!
You tell me how and I'll do it, OK
(((XOXOXO)))

Lisa: Thank You!!!
The only way I have eaten rabbit is fried. I have tried tame rabbit before so I will let you know how it works out. Rabbit burritos sounds interesting, I may have to try that sometime. I have an old meat grinder so maybe rabbit burgers too...LOL

This was the first year that we had our septic drain field freeze and it must have froze back to the tank and then the house. No hope of thawing the drain field until warm weather sets in for good. Today I am getting the tank pumped and the drain from the house thawed. I hope that will last until spring and warm weather.
