Well my dogs are missing. This has happened overnight before, but tomorrow it will be a week.
Since Bear has showed up on our doorstep, he has taken daily walks usually only lasting a couple of hours. But since Smeagol the Beagle showed up the walks got longer as she regained her strength. Lately Bear has been coming back all full of burrs and footsore and achy. I had been seriously considering taking Smeagol to the pound as she has not only been corrupting Bear, but for the past week has been terrorizing our flock of chickens. I guess I waited too long!!
Last Friday as we were beginning to get our share of rain from IKE, she taunted Bear into following her for a morning romp in the rain and they didn't come back until late that night.
Saturday morning I let them out in the light drizzle and she led him off again, for the last time. As the day progressed the rains got stronger and lasted until Monday morning.
We haven't seen hide nor hair of them since. Calls to the dog pound and driving around the area have produced no results. I hope they have found a new home or maybe their original homes.

Oh no.....well, I prefer to think the two of them are just on an extended fieldtrip. They are out having a wonderful time being bad doggies together, tongues hanging out, tails wagging madly...
I hope they come back to you, though.
Uh oh....maybe they just needed some time away...they found a spa nearby and are just getting a little R and R....I hope that they make their way back to you soon.
farmgirl_dk & frugalmom: thank you for the encouragement, and I hope that you are right. Since they were both strays I do not usually chain nor pen them up in case their owners happen to drive by and spot them or they decide to go home. But Bear has been with us for over 3 years, ever since Harley was a pup. And now poor Harley is frantic and won't let us out of site and constantly demands attention. We even had to take him with us on the search missions. We are surrounded by heavily hunted, wooded state lands and 1/2 mile to the north is the Cass River where I suspect is their usual playground, as they usually came home wet and muddy. We keep Harley chained or penned up when he is outside because he doesn't have the sense God gave a goose and won't come home on his own.
If they don't show up in another week maybe I will consider finally getting another German Shepherd to train. I am tired of good looking but dumb dogs. And now I have the time to train one with intellegence. The closest thing I've had to an intellegent dog was a dropped of Siberian Husky who I miss terribly. She was a good dog and a great companion and lived here for many years before I finally had to have her put down 3 years ago shortly after Bear arrived. She could no longer get up by herself and had a very hard time walking. I don't think Harley would have survived her loss without Bear.
That is a real bummer. Some friends of ours have some beagle pups and I asked John and he said no way because they run off. Never thought about the influence it may be on our other dog.
So sorry Grey Wolf. They may surprise you and come back when you least expect it. Probably after you've moved on and gotten that new GSD. Then you'll have to probably have to run them off again. :)
My great Aunt and Uncle have always owned Beagles, and though they are sweet and loyal, they are also trouble.
Theirs always end up having to go to the vet because they've eaten an entire oaf of bread, or a chocolate bar off the table. Beagles are greedy eaters.
And they can't take their eyes off their beagles for a second or else they see something and take off for the hills.
I had a sight hound before, an Afghan. Talk about a dumb in a pretty body. I've read that Afghans are the least intelligent of all the breeds.
The Afghan dog I had was from a rescue and he was at one time a show dog, named Blue. I learned right away, that unlike many dogs that can be let off the leash at the park to play, with most sight hounds, that is just crazy, unless very well trained...and smart.
Of which my Afghan was not.
Needless to say, it was a short term relationship and 'ole Blue was sent back to the Afghan rescue. :P
